A few kilometres from Palma, the capital of the island, you will find the 3 courses that comprise Arabella Golf in Mallorca.  The traditional and legendary Son Vida, the spectacular & magnificent Son Muntaner, and the new course with sea-views Son Quint which opened in September 2007.

Ramon Espinosa of “Garden & Golf” designed the 18 hole course with two big lakes, extends over 6200 metres of spectacular Mallorcan countryside; through pine & ancient olive trees.  Thanks to its elevated position Son Quint has an amazing view of the lively Palma area, and the sparkling sea of the bay of Palma.

The well-placed bunkers will challenge experienced golfers, and four different tee-box positions enable a variety of play.

The grass at Son Quint will be dense and an intensely green colour, even in the high summer temperatures.  For this purpose Ramon Espinosa has chosen the fine “Princess” type of grass.

After an exceptional round of golf you will be able to enjoy the clubhouse with its exquisite facilities for restaurants & small groups.

The 7,000 yard, par 72 championship standard course has been built to cope with the demands of a hot Spanish summer and remain in excellent condition all year around.

The layout has been carved between pine , olive and carob trees in a classic Mallorcan landscape.  Golfers will enjoy the challenge of a course that features four lakes and two island greens.

Golf Maioris begins with a gentle par 4, played to a green protected by three sand traps.  This is merely a warm-up for sterner challenges although the track has been designed to offer playability to golfers of all levels.

Unusually, pine trees are situated in the centre of the fairway at the 2nd hole and there is some clever design greenside.  Steep run-offs right, left and to the rear of the putting surface make precise approach play a necessity.

The 4th is the first of Mairois’ par 5′s and features an island green which will surely become a signature of the course.  Most of the golfers will be able to reach the this 539-yard hole in two, but for bigger hitters the margin for error between safety and water is slim.

The par-3, 13th is another classic hole.  Spanning 166 yards, the green is set over water and is defended by a carob tree and a series of moulding.

You will need to commit completely  to you shot to succeed here – a timid approach will be doomed to a watery grave.

Son Vida Golf is the Mallorca’s first and most celebrated course.  It was designed by Fred Hawtree in 1964 and renovated in 2001 by Kurt Rossknecht.  It’s famed for its broad fairways and breathtaking views over the bay of Palma de Mallorca.  At 6,125 yards it is short by modern standards, but it is known for its sweeping doglegs and its dramatic closing hole – a par 5 where a second shot over water appeals to the gambler in everyone.

It began life as a 9 hole course in 1985, and was redesigned in 1993 by American architect Bradford Benz to make a full 18 hole course.  Benz appears to have succeeded in creating the classy standards more often associated with the cars that share his name, for Vall d’Or is a short but wonderfully presented course.  The first 9 holes, are set amongst pine trees, and have unrelenting views over the Mediterranean sea.  The course opens with a short par 3, and is followed by a difficult par 4 that winds steeply into the hills.  These holes give no hint to the first time player of the breathtaking revelation that is the next hole.

The 3rd must rank among the 10 best and most beautiful golf holes on the island.  It is a par 5 with an elevated tee that offers spectacular views over the bay of Porto Colom.  The hole plays downhill through a valley and turns left to where the green is lofted into a hillside by intricate rock bouldering.  A good drive leaves you in range to reach in two, but with a hanging lie that promotes a fade.  Ideally placed at the green’s front right corner is a tall willow tree, a magnet for the brave who take on this approach.

The next four holes are beautiful, short but tricky and on the tree-lined front 9 it pays to leave the driver in the bag.  The back 9, the original 9 hole layout, is more open and here you can really play for a score.

Along the course are three lakes and a good number of bunkers with limestone sand.  It cannot be described as either a flat or mountainous course.  Undulating is probably the best word, and due to its location it is well known for its cooling afternoon sea-breezes.

The 16th is an intriguing spectacle of the inward half and needs a 40-yard fade from the tee.  The par-3 18th is a strong finishing hole.  Its raised green, with well mown run offs, sits in front of the stylish Vall d’Or Clubhouse from where you can see the whole of Calas de Mallorca, the south-east coast of the island.

Its Club House has comfortable changing rooms, a sports shop, bar and a restaurant which is renowned for its quality and excellent service.

Its rural setting, its magnificent views and its contrasting holes, means that this course is a firm favourite of golfers visiting the east of the island.

Son Termens is an appealing golf course set amid idyllic natural surroundings.

The only building you can see while you’re out on the course is the attractive ochre Mallorcan style clubhouse, and the steady rise in the course enables you to experience stunning views across the landscape from vantage points along the back nine.

The course is in an excellent location, between the village of S’Esglaieta and the Soller Road, 10km north of Palma on the way to Valldemossa.  Even the drive here is a relief from the busy motorway that circles Palma.

The course was designed by the Harris group, and Jose Rodriguez and opened as recently as 1998 – so is one of Mallorca’s newest courses.  Despite its tender age, Son Termens is already renowned for its quick, smooth greens and its magnificent condition.  It’s rare to find a new course built to a par of 70, but at Son Termens the designers have got it exactly right.

Birdie opportunities abound, and it’s enjoyable to play a well kept course that offers a chance to score well.  The par-4 1st can be driven by the long hitter, while the course’s two par 5s, the 5th and 6th, are reachable by the better player in two.

But there are some demanding holes too.  The 4th and 10th in particular are two punishing par 4′s, played uphill to raised greens surrounded by bunkers.  Both require good tee-shots if you’re to reach the greens in two.

The most interesting hole at Son Termens is the par-4 2nd.  A blind tee shot to a narrow fairway requires just an iron, leaving a 100-yard pitch to a green protected by water to the front and right, while a huge bunker awaits behind for the nervy golfer who hits his approach just a little too hard.
